In 1923, the Rowe Hotel with its 320 rooms was one of Grand Rapids’ finest luxury inns, housing business travelers and hosting community galas. Through the decades, the Rowe ranged in use – from a WWII Army Air Force weather school, a downtown senior hostel, and as Olds Manor, a senior citizen retirement home. Vacant for 16 years the Rowe’s transformation and renovation has created a vibrant urban destination with its blend of residential and commercial functions and a pedestrian connection. The Rowe features 80 one and two-bedroom apartments and condominiums on the 10th and newly-added 11th floor, a rooftop terrace, resident community room, and a fitness center. The transformation of a multi-level basement resulted in highly-valued underground parking for residents. The project also features nearly 10,000 square feet of ground floor retail and restaurant space. Atwater Brewery, 6,000-square-foot tap house and restaurant, opened its doors in August 2016. The restaurant combines unique features with modern touches using reclaimed materials from both Detroit and Grand Rapids.
