111 Lyon
The transformation of 111 Lyon, originally known as Number One Vandenberg Center, into a vibrant residential community is pivotal in creating more housing in downtown Grand Rapids. This adaptive reuse project effectively retools the modern architectural machine by introducing 140 new residential apartments, over the top seven floors, to previously underutilized office space. The 105 one-bedroom and 35 two-bedroom units, including 28 designated for income-qualified households, the design prioritizes both functionality and inclusivity to meet the needs of a diverse urban population.
111 Lyon is re-establishing itself as a cornerstone of downtown living. It’s eliminating vacancy and, once again, fostering a renewed sense of community. Thoughtfully designed units are inspired by the mid-century era and filled with ample light by the structure’s large windows, while modern amenities create an attractive, livable environment that supports the evolving identity of Grand Rapids’ city center.
Construction is set for completion in Spring 2026, ensuring a dynamic addition to Grand Rapids’ urban core.
