Consumers Energy celebrated the opening of the John G. Russell Leadership Center on Grand Valley State University’s Pew Grand Rapids Campus in February of 2017. With a design to provide professional development for Consumers Energy employees from across the state at a central location, the building features a variety of spaces to support large and small groups. The building boasts state-of-the-art training rooms and meeting spaces where facilitators can reconfigure furniture to accommodate their specific needs ranging from traditional to collaborative classrooms setup, conference or board room meeting setup, lectures, or banquet setup.
Functional spaces loaded with comfort and technology provide employees with a home away from their office giving them the ability to stay connected and productive. The second and third floors feature unique, collaboration spaces for casual interaction or smaller break out meetings. Private enclaves also serve employees when not in training.
Abundant natural light and views of the Grand River combine to create a center that pleasingly supports the hard work of learning and training. The building is pursuing LEED NC V4 Silver certification making use of reclaimed wood and using a glass exterior to maximize day lighting and the views.
This iconic structure sits on a GVSU-owned site adjacent to a historic Steelcase building. The new construction blends with the old seamlessly featuring a new common connector entry with egress stairs, restrooms, and an elevator. The entry services both the Leadership Center and the Steelcase building tenants.
