City of Grand Rapids Kendall Street Fire Station

The new City of Grand Rapids Kendall Street Fire Station is a thoughtfully designed 12,600-square-foot, two-bay facility on a 1.5-acre site. Key features include private living quarters with modern amenities, drive-through apparatus bays, and advanced exhaust systems. The station also provides ample storage for equipment, a workout space, a command station with compatible systems, and on-site parking. The exterior design complements the surrounding neighborhood, while a community room and neighborhood park space enhance public engagement. Designed to serve the Third Ward for the next 75-100 years, this station prioritizes functionality, inclusivity, and community integration, becoming a vital and lasting addition to the area. Integrated Architecture, serving as the architect of record, collaborated with BRW Architects on the design of this project.

"As a large government agency, I have used IA for many years and on a variety of projects. We have built a great working relationship with several of their team members, who are extremely responsive and creative. Our projects ebb and flow with fiscal years, and the availability of grant funding' often necessitates last-minute calls to ia to do a proof of concept or site planning with very little notice. Although that is not an ideal way to operate, they have consistently stepped up to the plate to meet our deadlines. Similarly, meeting timelines and challenging budget targets with limited resources have required some out-of-the-box thinking while still accomplishing our original goals. GRFD is extremely happy with IA and looks forward to many more projects with them over the coming years."
