City of Grand Rapids Division Avenue Fire Station

The new Grand Rapids Division Avenue Fire Station is a state-of-the-art, two-story, 18,100-square-foot facility designed to replace the existing, non-salvageable structure on a 1.22-acre site. Key features include three pull-through apparatus bays, ensuring efficient emergency response capabilities. The building’s exterior is designed with an open and inviting façade along Division Avenue, fostering a strong connection with the surrounding neighborhood. A prominent northern quarter-acre lawn area has been planned to enhance community engagement, with potential future conversion into a futsal court. Additionally, a mural wall will serve as a public art feature while discreetly concealing building utilities. The facility integrates a semi-public training and community room, seating up to 40 people near the main entrance for accessibility. This new facility, which will replace the outdated station from 1926, will provide modern, inclusive accommodations for firefighters while addressing broader community needs. Integrated Architecture, serving as the architect of record, is collaborating with BRW Architects on the design of this project.

"As a large government agency, I have used IA for many years and on a variety of projects. We have built a great working relationship with several of their team members, who are extremely responsive and creative. Our projects ebb and flow with fiscal years, and the availability of grant funding' often necessitates last-minute calls to ia to do a proof of concept or site planning with very little notice. Although that is not an ideal way to operate, they have consistently stepped up to the plate to meet our deadlines. Similarly, meeting timelines and challenging budget targets with limited resources have required some out-of-the-box thinking while still accomplishing our original goals. GRFD is extremely happy with IA and looks forward to many more projects with them over the coming years."
