Welcome to the Team
Chip Clark, AIA, NCARB joins the IA team as a Senior Project Architect and Senior Project Manager. He earned Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Architecture degrees from Virginia Tech’s College of Architecture and Urban Studies. As a citizen architect, Chip thrives in collaborative environments and strives to imbue projects with opportunities to better the human condition. He has extensive experience in mixed-use commercial, multi-family, industrial manufacturing, healthcare, and adaptive reuse market sectors, working across the full spectrum of project design and delivery. Before starting a professional practice career, Chip had a decade-long academic career teaching design and conducting design research in architecture programs at Virginia Tech and Kent State University, focusing on the territory between traditional and digital fabrication techniques and material/tool intelligence.
If you search the internet hard enough, you might find Chip showing up across a variety of media outlets, such as an episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, or on Good Morning America helping the weather team report live from a demonstration house on Time Square. As a member of three different Solar Decathlon teams, Chip has collected a series of adventure stories and battle scars from exhibitions in Washington D.C., Chicago, NYC, and Madrid. Should you happen to find yourself in a cloud forest on the Osa Peninsula, the Mahale Mountains of western Tanzania, a Caribbean marina, or Chicago’s River Point Plaza, you might come across his work.
Chip enjoys getting out on water to wet a fishing line or trim a sail, and when the weather is pleasant you can spot him taking back roads around town in a ’71 MG midget. He is an adopted son of Michigan, moving to the Grand Rapids area in 2019 with his wife Kate to raise two daughters in her hometown of Ada. Chip hails from Fredericksburg, VA and is trying to remember that pop is not called “soda” around these parts.
Welcome to the team, Chip!
