Champion Health & Fitness Recognized as State-Of-Art Facility

September 2002

The 2002 Architectural Showcase Edition of Athletic Business features 116 state-of-the-art facilities from across the country and one from Rockford, Michigan. Champion Health & Fitness is among the nation’s top facilities featured in the 15th annual Architectural Showcase of the business magazine for athletic, fitness and recreation professionals.

“Champion is unique in that it demonstrates the successful recycling of an existing structure,” said Mike Corby, AIA, Integrated Architecture Executive Vice President and lead project designer. “It transforms vacant, unused retail space, the former D&W and Big Wheel stores, into an attractive, exciting, viable state-of-the-art facility. And, the conversion of the space saved 40% over the cost of new construction.”

The design of the facility takes its cue from President and CEO Dr. Oliver Grin, whose neurosurgeon career spanned 25-years. Dr. Grin believes that your heart determines how long you live and your spine determines how well you live.

Built by D&D Construction, the 152,408 SF project features clean and simple architecture supported by the sophisticated use of color and finishes. The result is an uncomplicated environment that nourishes a healthy mind, body and spirit.
