Lamar Corporate Headquarters Wins AIA GV Honor Award

April 2008

The Chesapeake Bay based architects who judged the AIA Grand Valley annual honor awards contest had high praise for Integrated Architecture’s design of the Lamar Construction Company Corporate Headquarters, a 5,200 SF hovering box of glass and steel.

“Unanimously picked by the jury as the project most deserving of recognition”

“This project was in a class of its own” “An amazing building”

“Clean, dramatic, iconic…daring…
a powerful statement” AIA GV 2008 Jury.

“One of the largest cantilevers in the United States, we designed the building specifically to illustrate Lamar Construction’s ability to work with steel, concrete and pre-manufactured buildings. The form relates directly to Lamar’s core work, showcasing their expertise in steel erection, formed concrete construction and pre-engineered buildings,” Mike Corby, AIA, LEED AP, Integrated Architecture Executive Vice President said. “We are grateful to Lamar for giving us the opportunity to create this landmark building. Projects like this come along once in a career.”

IA also won the inaugural award in the Historic Preservation / Adaptive Reuse category. Initiated this year, the award recognizes exemplary work in restoring or adapting existing building stock constructed prior to 1950. The winning project, a renovation of Zeeland’s Colonial Clock building for the Innotec Group, literally moved back the hands of time. The complex, once Colonial Clock’s headquarters and factory, now hosts high tech light manufacturing for ‘new economy’ companies. Clocks that were manufactured within the walls now adorn the former factory floor, marking time where time was once created. Vacant lease space, timeless in its simplicity, stands fresh and ready for new endeavors. “

“We are pleased that both the Lamar Headquarters cantilever building and the Innotec project were selected for awards,” said Paul Dickinson, AIA, IA President. “This emphasizes our ability to provide award-winning design for all types of buildings – both those on the cutting edge of modern architecture and those that are simply timeless. This recognition, by our peers, also validates the work of our architects, engineers and interior designers in creating buildings that offer great environments for our clients, and acknowledged by our industry as award-winning projects.”
