Described as a 'very crisp and contemporary project and
an imminently livable home,' this family residence is modern
and simple, yet organic and connected. Located atop a wooded
ridge outside of the city, the home is framed by stone walls
and spanned by floor to roof transparent planes, it provides
a strong link to its natural surroundings.
"Mike
Corby and the Integrated Architecture team designed our
new shopping center, Terrazzo. It was only natural that
we'd turn to them for our new home," said Dan Hurwitz.
"Before Mike began designing the home, we first walked
the site and talked about our needs. Then, he went to work,
and we never moved from the original design. We love living
here. Every time I come in the driveway, the site of our
home thrills me!" Dan said. .
"We are honored that the Hurwitz home was acclaimed
by our peers in the building design category," said
Paul Dickinson, AIA, Integrated Architecture President.
"There were many exceptional projects entered in this
year's design awards, and to win an award affirms our ability
to deliver excellence. It is a joy to work with clients
like this who appreciate and understand the importance of
design," Dickinson concluded.
Mike Corby, AIA, LEED AP, Executive Vice President and project
design principal put it this way, "Creating a home
for Dan, Stephanie and their children offered us the opportunity
to apply our talents and experience in a more personal way.
We utilized space and form to do more than create a building,
we designed a home that holds them safe with in its walls
while opening them to the outside world. It is also seamlessly
barrier-free home allowing invisible transition from outside
to in and from living area to living area. The result is
that a home that speaks to your soul while supporting a
full family life filled with traditions."
