Integrated Architecture's design of the new Forest Hills
Public Schools Fine Arts Center earned a Specialized Citation
for Outstanding Design in the November / December Architectural
Portfolio issue of American School & University magazine.
The Citation ranks it in the top 5% of the 258 projects
profiled in the issue of AS&U.
"Great
use of materials, great layout and siting... Well-thought-out
with community involvement," commented the Jury that
consisted of AIA members and school administrators who evaluated
the submissions from architectural firms across the country.
"There
is no doubt that the Fine Arts Center is a magnificent project.
We are pleased and proud that our effort is recognized by
the school architecture design community," Paul Dickinson,
AIA, Integrated Architecture President stated.
"The
Center represents the community's desire to create a facility
that would become the cultural center of Forest Hills. Designed
in collaboration with a 104-member advisory committee, it
successfully creates a community venue for the arts,"
Dickinson said.
"The
Center serves thousands of students and community members
each week and works flawlessly for every event imaginable,"
stated Karen Lott, Executive Director of Community Service.
"Last week we had three schools in a combined concert,
an arts reception, a citizens planning committee and three
classes of Poms all going on at the same time. Not only
is the building breathtaking, it works!"
"Designed
to achieve a USGBC LEED rating, the center teaches by example
the luxuries that come from the wise use of natural materials,
sunlight and space," Dickinson continued. "Constructed
of high-recycled content materials, and sustainabile materials,
its utilizes non-VOC offgassing paints, sealents, carpets
and water conserving plumbing fixtures. A special theatre
HVAC system flows through the plenum offering energy savings
and a more comfortable environment."
In considering projects for publication, primary consideration
was given to the design firm's solution to the stated educational
program requirements. Specific characteristics considered
included:
Innovation
Program/Building Organization
Meaningfulness
Representation
Design Continuity and Balance
