The American Institute of Architects Michigan has awarded
Integrated Architecture a Sustainable Design Honor Award
for the Herman Miller MarketPlace, Zeeland.
Integrated
Architecture's design of the MarketPlace was described by
the jury as an "Unbelievable accomplishment for the
cost. This project takes sustainable out of Popular Mechanics
and into the real working world."
Mike
Corby, AIA, Integrated Architecture Executive Vice President,
lead the MarketPlace design team. "Our goal was to
create a great place to work that would also be sustainable.
MarketPlace is filled with natural light, fresh air and
green materials. Built for an economical $89/SF, it uses
40% less energy than Herman Miller's typical office building.
Located in a commercial development next to a McDonald's
restaurant, it demonstrates that green buildings can be
woven successfully into the commercial landscape."
"With
over 2,000 architect members in Michigan, winning one of
only two Sustainable Design Honor Awards, the other when
to the Visitor Center at Ford's River Rouge Assembly Plant,
is a significant achievement," said Paul Dickinson,
AIA, Integrated Architecture President. "The MarketPlace
is Michigan's first U. S. Green Building Council Gold LEED
(Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rated new
construction, and illustrates that sustainable architecture
is affordable for all."
"We
are grateful to Herman Miller for the opportunity to design
this project. It is inspiring to work with clients who are
influential in bringing the environmental sustainability
ethic to the corporate workplace, and who understand the
significance and impact of green design," Corby stated.
"This award also recognizes our firm's leadership in
sustainable design. Our other sustainable projects include
the David D. Hunting YMCA, the recently opened Forest Hills
Fine Arts Center, the State of Michigan's first green police
post, and Metropolitan Hospital's Advanced Energy and Sustainability
Center at the new Metro Health campus."

Scott Vyn, LEED A.P., Senior Associate, LEED Design
